About Heather

Travel in
my bones.
Japan in my heart.

22 years of Japan experience — lived, not just visited — and a clinical background that changes how I think about every itinerary I design.

"I didn't want to just book hotels. I wanted to bring my rare lived experience to allow others to experience the same wonder that changed me."

Travel has been in my bones for as long as I can remember. Japan has been in my heart since 2004, when I moved there to teach English and fell completely in love with a country that rewards the curious, the patient, and the prepared.

Over 22 years of returning — to travel, to study, to wander — I built something rare: a deep, integrated understanding of Japan that no guidebook or package tour can replicate.

As a Speech-Language Pathologist of 16 years, I also brought a different lens to travel. I think carefully about how people communicate, process, and experience new environments. About what makes a journey feel overwhelming versus effortless. And I realized I could do something with all of that — not just for myself, but for others.

Wander Wide is the result. A travel advisory built on lived experience, clinical insight, and a genuine love of helping people discover Japan on their own terms.

What to expect

Japan can feel intimidating.
That's exactly why I'm here.

My job is to handle everything that might worry you before it has a chance to. So by the time you land, the only thing left is to be present.

Clear communication, always
No ask is too small. I'm accessible before, during, and after your journey — and I communicate in plain language, not travel industry jargon.
Itineraries built around you
Regardless of budget, travel style, or neurotype — every journey is designed around the actual humans on it. Not a template. Not a one-size-fits-all.
Your worries, handled
Japan is an extraordinary place. It can also feel overwhelming. I've spent 22 years learning how to navigate it — so you don't have to worry about any of that. You just get to be there.
Before you even land

Everything is handled
before you arrive.

The Wander Wide Blueprint means the logistics are invisible by the time you get on the plane. Here's what's done before you touch down.

1
IC card, pre-loaded
Your Suica or ICOCA card arrives ready to use — loaded with enough credit for your entire route. No fumbling with machines on arrival.
2
Every ticket purchased
Shinkansen seats, museum entries, tea ceremonies, teppanyaki dinners — all reserved and confirmed before departure. Nothing to buy in a language you don't speak.
3
Custom door-to-door maps
Not Google Maps links. Hand-built route guides for every day — exactly where to go, which exit to take, what to look for. Designed for humans, not for GPS.
4
Accommodation curated
Every hotel, ryokan, and ski lodge chosen for location, quality, and how it fits the rhythm of your journey. Daily breakfast included throughout.
5
A Wander Day built in
Every journey includes at least one unscheduled day. Not because planning ran out — because the best moments in Japan are the ones you find yourself.
6
No single supplement. Ever.
Solo travelers pay the same per-person price as everyone else. Always. Interest-matched groups mean you arrive among people who already share your curiosity.
